The European Union takes to the field: with “Give Sport a Say” grassroots sport becomes civic education

Give Sport a Say is an innovative project that uses grassroots sports as a tool for civic education to bring citizens closer to the values and decision-making processes of the European Union. By leveraging the inclusive nature of training sessions and tournaments, the initiative breaks down social and economic barriers, reaching even those who do not typically participate in institutional life. The goal is to transform playing fields into genuine spaces for listening and debate, where every participant can express their opinion and actively contribute to defining the future priorities of the European community.

The project’s strong sense of unity was underscored by the active presence of several key figures from the community, who participated alongside a noble and socially meaningful initiative: the Partita del Cuore Pro and the multidisciplinary Open Day. In this setting, athletes with disabilities were welcomed and had the opportunity to try their hand at the various sports on offer, alongside all those who work daily to promote the common good, leveraging sport as a powerful tool for inclusion.

During the event, representatives from various institutions were directly involved, taking to the field alongside a large and passionate delegation of athletes—both able-bodied and “proabile”—to share their thoughts and actively support the “Give Sport a Say” project.

This strategic partnership between the political and sports worlds helped bridge the gap with citizens, offering a tangible and unified example to give visible form to a vision of sports that is truly accessible, inclusive, and participatory for everyone.
